There are several ways in which AI can be used in the judicial system to improve efficiency and accuracy. One application is the use of AI to analyze large amounts of legal data to help lawyers identify precedents in case law, enable administrations in streamlining judicial processes, and support judges with predictions on issues including sentence duration and recidivism scores. AI can also be used to assist judges and the judicial system to provide streamlined access to justice free from human bias, as many of the articles in this issue attest AI can guide court users to navigate many legal issues without the need for a lawyer. AI can also be used to detect fraud and trade stocks, identify tumors with greater accuracy than medical personnel, and assess various risks from the likelihood that a defendant will skip bail to the likelihood that a potential parolee will re-offend. While there is some uncertainty about usage, it is clear that AI will transform the practice of law and the role of courts in regulating its use.
